Clean classic white is fabulous, but a shot of color is taking today’s white kitchens to new heights
All-white kitchens have been popular for a good many years now and we don’t see them going out of style, but in today’s white kitchens we are adding a nice shot of color here and there. Whether you are planning a full renovation or just want to add some color to a tired kitchen, there are ways to bring in a beautiful new color or two.
Wallpaper No, I’m not kidding! Wallpaper has made a comeback and it’s not your mother’s wallpaper. ‘’Wallpaper’’ is a misnomer. It’s actually vinyl and completely washable. It’s as easy to remove as it is to put up and it adds ‘’Wow’’ to your kitchen. It’s also a nice way to add texture.
Paint Bring some stunning color to the all-white kitchen with paint. Like wall coverings it’s easy to use in controlled doses-- perhaps just an accent wall or above the upper cabinets. The newest thing in kitchen design is to use only base cabinets and drawers, leaving the upper parts of the room open to adjoining spaces or using open shelving and large windows. Paint in these spaces is vital. The hue is up to you.
Open Shelving Speaking of open shelving the shelves themselves can be painted adding a nice pop of color. Your dishware, collections, or even colorful cookbooks can enliven your kitchen with color. Even just a few open shelves can give you a place to keep things like trays and mixing bowls and add a bit of color and your personality to the kitchen design.
Stools Most kitchens make use of counter or bar stools today. Besides offering comfortable seating, stools can also add color! If your stools are wood simply buy some nice cushions to add comfort and color. Today’s cushions are available in any color and some add a little pattern as well. Buffalo check is major popular. If your stools have seen better days paint them! The colors for 2020 are deep mossy green, blue of every shade, grey, and very pale yellow.
Art Prints Art prints are the perfect touch in any room—including the kitchen. They bring tons of color, personality, and style to the kitchen. Tile murals have been around for decades and they never go out of style. They are an excellent way to inject color into your kitchen design. But if you’d rather not make a commitment art prints also nail your kitchen style. They set the mood you’re going for, whether it’s Contemporary or Farmhouse, Modern or Coastal. Seasonal art can bring the beauty of each season into the kitchen. Art finishes any room, including the kitchen. No open walls? Set them on open shelving or above upper wall cabinets. Rugs, window treatments, pendent lights are other ways to inject some color into your white kitchen. A small change is really all you need to make a big difference!
